Canton Meet

The Cross Country teams competed on the campus of UT Tyler last weekend in one of the largest meets of the season hosted by Tyler Lee High School. The Varsity girl’s team placed sixth and the boy’s team placed 11th in the Open Varsity division. Jess McNew led the Ladynecks in seventh place with a race time of 12:39. McNew was followed by Paige Maly, 18th, 13:08 and Brianne Mathews, 39th in 13:42. Lauren Berry and Elizabeth Horne completed the team scoring in 52nd and 79th place. Berry completed the two mile course in 14:00 and Horne in a time of 15:01. The girls raced well over a course that was mostly grassy terrain with an incline at the end. In the Junior Varsity girls race Alyssa Mathews placed 48th, 16:04, out of 94 runners.

For the second week, Skylar Sutton led the Roughnecks with a 28th place finish in a time of 18:03. Jonathan Spedowski continued to improve his performances with a race time of 18:33 for 41st place. Cory Jones placed 83rd, 20:13, Jerred Whisenhunt, 87th, 20:16, and Austin Jordan, 89th, 20:21 to completed the team scoring. Calob Player and Carter Tackett completed the 3.2 mile course in 20:31 and 20:48 for 93rd and 100th place.

The boys are still learning to race as a team and they are showing great strides in this area. In the Junior Varsity boys race Clay Hunter collected some hardware with an 18th place finish in a time of 19:43. Hunter was followed by teammate Greyson Jones in 22:32 and Chase Robinson in 22:58 for 77th and 92nd places. Jordan DeAguero placed 99th in a time of 23:15. Mickey McFall, 133rd, and Bryson White, 138th, for 24:50 and 24:55 respectively.

The teams will travel to Canton on September 18th to compete in the Running Eagles Invitational for the first time. The High School races kickoff at 8:30 with the Varsity boys race. The Junior High runners will compete in their first meet of the season on this course starting at approximately 10:10 with the boys race followed by the girls.

The meet this week will be held across from the Canton Trade Day grounds. Take I20 to Canton, take the HWY 19 exit and turn left towards Diary Palace and McDonald’s. The meet will be across from the Trade Days Pavilions and Arbors area on the left.

Spring Hill Meet

Cross Country Teams Starts Season at Spring Hill Invitational

The boys and girls Cross Country teams started their season at the third annual Spring Hill Invitational held at Lear Park in Longview on Saturday, September 4th. The girls varsity team placed fifth and the varsity boys placed seventh as a team. The girls were paced by Junior Brianne Mathews’ 13th  place finish. Mathews’ completed the course in a time of 12:33, and was closely followed by Jess McNew in 12th  place, 12:34. Paige Maly finished in 12:58 for 22nd place and Shandee Lynn raced to a time of 13:23 for 39th place. Lauren Berry, 47th place, and Elizabeth Horne, 61st place, rounded out the girls runners in times of 13:34 and 14:12. The girls race saw 101 competitors from all classifications. Alyssa Mathews competing in her first race of her career, placed 29 with a time of 15:17 in the junior varsity division. The girls raced well for their first meet of the season. They have worked hard since early August in preparation for the 2010 season.

The boys varsity team will have many new faces this season. Rookie Sophomores Skylar Sutton and Jonathan Spedowski paced the boys in the first race of the season. Sutton led the way with an 18thplace finish in 17:37. He was followed by Spedowski in 26th with a time of 17:56. Senior Cory Jones placed 48th in a time of 18:53 followed by Austin Jordan, 53rd, 19:07, and Jerred Whisenhunt, 19:23, 60th rounded out the team scoring for the Roughnecks. Senior Calob Player, 19:29, finished 62ndand Sophomore Carter Tackett, 71st, 19:53, out of 107 competitors. The boys had five of seven runners competing in their first race. It is always a good feel to start the season and get at least one race under your belt. This year’s boys team has more depth and talent then in recent year’s. I’m looking forward to seeing what the 2010 season has in store for them as a team.

The junior varsity boys were paced by Clay Hunter sixth place finish in a time of 18:42 followed by Greyson Jones in 15th, 20:04. Jordan DeAguero, 21:14, and Chase Robinson, 21:20, finished in 28th and 30th  respectively. Mickey McFall, 22:49 and Bryson White 23:40 completed the junior varsity runners. The team placed 4th with a score of 69 points.

The teams will travel to the University at Tyler to compete in the Tyler Lee Country Classic on Saturday, September 11th . This is one of the biggest meets of the season with several high school races as well as a college division. The course is a relatively flat and grassy and the runners will face some hills as they wind through the campus terrain. The races will begin at 8:45 with the varsity girls division followed by the varsity boys and junior varsity runners.

Turn North on Orange Grove Blvd off of HWY 80. Stay on that road until you pass the airplane runway. Parking will be along the fence from the golf course.

LAdynEcks PlaCeS 2nd at Mt PlEsaNt MeEt

Ladyneck Cross Country team races to 2nd place finish.
The Ladyneck Cross Country team placed second with 102 points behind Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill at the Titus County Fair Cross Country Invitational meet held at Mt. Pleasant High School. The second place team finish was out of 27 teams in all classifications. The Ladynecks placed four runners in the top twenty places led by Sydney Hamm’s seventh place finish in a time of 13:10. Jessica McNew placed ninth with a time of 13:16 followed by Paige Maly in 13th, 13:28, and Brianne Mathews in 18th , 13:42. Shandee Lynn finished in 14:57 for 55th place to score for the team standing. Lauren Berry finished 58th in 14:59 and Elizabeth Horne 68th in 15:08 out of 160 runners. In the boys race Austin Jordan led the Roughnecks to a 16th place team finish out of 28 teams. Jordan finished 36th in a time of 18:09 followed by teammate Cory Jones in 55th place in 18:32. Clay Hunter ran 18:58 for 82nd place followed by Jimmy McNew in 149th, 21:20, and Thien Vuong 150th in 21:21. There were 159 runners in the Varsity boys division. Brittani Pfau and Carmyn Gibson raced in the JV girls division for White Oak. Pfau finished 32nd in a time of 16:38 and Gibson finished 52nd in a time of 17:25. This was one of the largest meets of the season, seeing nearly 900 runners compete throughout the morning in all the divisions and classifications.
The Middle School boys placed third with 168 points out of eleven teams in their division. Slade Sutton led the Middle School boys with a fourth place finish in 13:01 for the two mile course. Sutton was followed by Jessie Reeves in 25th place in a time of 13:53. Blake Warren, 14:38, placed 43rd, Hunter Foulke, 14:43, 46th, and Aaron Deslatte, 50th in 14:46 completed the team scoring for the boys team. Chase Robinson raced to a time of 15:10 for 67th place followed by teammate Mickey McFall in 15:35, 78th place. Josh Eastman placed 94th , 16:42, and Mason Malone, 123rd for 18:15 out of 157 runners competing in the boys race. All of the boys improved their time considerably from the previous meet. The Middle School girls also found themselves competing in a large race with 157 runners in their division. Kristen Moyers ran a time of 17:10 for 72nd place, followed by Bailee Mouton in 82nd place with a time of 17:32 and Jordan Smith finished in 93rd, 17:52. The teams will return to competition on October 10th at the Union Grove Invitational meet held at Union Grove High School. The races will begin at 8:30 with the Middle School girls racing followed by the boys at 9:00 and the junior varsity girls at 9:30 and boys at 10:00. The Varsity races will begin at 10:30 with the girls followed by the boys at 11:00. This meet is a mix of terrains with a big hill waiting at the finish for the runners. This meet will also likely showcase several district opponents we have not competed against this season.

Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot

The Roughneck and Ladyneck Cross Country teams returned to action last Saturday at the Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot held at Katy ‘s Ranch in Kilgore. After eight days of steady rain, the course was soggy and muddy with plenty of puddles. The girls team competed well as a team on this challenging course finishing 4th out of 9 teams behind Canton, Spring Hill, and Pine Tree. Sydney Hamm led this week with a seventh place finish in 13:17, followed by Jessica McNew in 10th in 13:30. Brianne Mathews also collected some hardware finishing in 13:47 for 15th place. Paige Maly, 27th, 14;15 and Shandee Lynn, 36th, 14:48 finished up the team scoring for the Ladynecks. Lauren Berry finished in 40th, 15:05, and Elizabeth Horne, 48th, 15:26 out of 83 runners in the varsity race. Brittani Pfau collected some hardware in the JV girls race finishing 13th out of 88 runners in a time of 16:07.
In the boys varsity race Austin Jordan led the Roughnecks with a 25th place finish in a time of 18:53 followed by Cory Jones in 19:17 with a 29th place finish. Clay Hunter finished 40th in 19:51. Jimmy McNew, 68th, 22:21 and Thien Vuong, 72nd, 23:05 rounded out the team scoring for the boys. The boys finished 10th as a team and 88 runners competed in the boys varsity division. All of the boys raced well and improved their time from previously by a team average of minute and six seconds.
The Middle School teams competed in their first race of the season. Slade Sutton led the middle school boys to a 4th place team finish out of 12 teams. Sutton raced to an eighth place finish in 13:43 followed by Jessie Reeves in 27th, 14:45. Hunter Foulke, 31st, 15:00, Josh Eastman, 36th, 15:17, and Aaron Deslatte 41st, 15:27 were the top five team scorers for the Roughnecks. Chase Robinson and Mickey McFall finished in 48th and 55th in times of 15:42 and 16:11 for the 2 mile course followed by Blake Warren in 61st in 16:57. Charles Denton and Mason Malone ran 19:21 and 19:26 for 81st and 82nd place out of 94 runners. Kristen Moyers was the lone competitor in the girls race. She finished in 17:58 for 36th place out of 84 runners. All of the middle school runners competed well for a challenging first meet. The Cross Country teams will travel to Mt Pleasant High School for the Titus County Fair Invitational on Saturday, September 26th. The races will begin at 8:00 with the Junior High girls followed by the boys at 9:00. The High School teams will being racing at 9:00 with the Varsity girls followed by the boys and Junior Varsity girls at 10:00. The course is fairly flat and runs through mainly grassy terrains.

TYLER LEE MEET RESULTS

Girls Cross Country Team Finishes 2nd at Tyler Lee Meet

The girls Cross Country team raced to a second place finish with 97 points at the Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic at UT Tyler. The team was edged by T.K. Gorman with a score of 94. Jessica McNew led the Ladynecks with an eighth place finish in 12:39. Sydney Hamm and Paige Maly finished 12th and 13th with times of 12:48 and 12:49. Brianne Mathews raced to a time of 13:01 for an 18th place finish, and Lauren Berry rounded out the scorers with a 46th place finish in 14:21. Elizabeth Horne and Shandee Lynn completed the girls race in 54th, 14:39, and 63rd, 15:13, out of 93 runners. In the junior varsity girls race Brittani Pfau finished in 13th place in a time of 15:19. All of the girls competed well on this course, and their racing times have improved from their performances on the same course last season.

The boys entered their first race of the season as a team at the Tyler Lee meet. Dylan Rogers paced the Roughnecks with an eleventh place finish in 17:49 out of 118 runners. Cory Jones followed in 19:55 in 52nd. Clay Hunter placed 76th with a time of 21:03. Jimmie McNew, 105th and Thien Vuong rounded out the scoring for the Roughnecks with times of 23:35 and 23:43. The boy’s team is gaining experience competing at the varsity level. They are still quite young at racing at the varsity level with four of the six runners competing in their first season. However, they are continuing to work hard and train hard during the week and they will begin to see the results on Saturdays.

Both teams will return to action on Saturday, September 19th at the Fourth Annual Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot at Katy’s Ranch in Kilgore. This is one of the most fun races of the season. It is challenging with hills fondly named “Big Mama” but winds through different terrains and around ponds. It is a true cross country race. The races begin at 8:00 with the varsity girls followed by the junior varsity girls and then the boys races. This will also be the first week the middle school teams will be competing with their race time tentatively schedule for 9:45 with the girls followed by the boys race.

 

 

Cross Country Teams Kickoff Season at Spring Hill Invitational

The boys and girls Cross Country teams started their season at the second annual Spring Hill Invitational held at Spring Hill stadium on Saturday, August 29th. The varsity girls kicked off the morning races on the grassy three mile course followed by the varsity boys. Sophomore Paige Maly paced the Ladynecks with a ninth place finish in 20:36 followed by Jessica McNew, 20:45, in 19th place. Sydney Hamm and Brianne Mathews finished in 20th and 21st in a time of 20:57. Shandee Lynn rounded out the team scoring with a 36th place finish in 22:44. Elizabeth Horne finished in 23:58 with a 53rd place finish. There were 76 runners in the varsity girls race and the Ladynecks finished fifth in the team standings with 105 points.

Senior Dylan Rogers led the boys team this week with a ninth place finish in the boys race that saw 111 runners compete. Rogers completed the three mile course in 16:46. He was followed by freshman Austin Jordan in 30th with a time of 17:52.

The junior varsity boys also competed on the same three mile course as the varsity. Clay Hunter finished in eleventh place in a time of 19:45 followed by Jimmy McNew in 47th with a time of 21:50. Thien Vuong ran a 22:10 for a 54th place finish. The junior varsity boys division saw 110 runners compete in the race. The junior varsity girls finished off the morning races on a similar two mile course. Lauren Berry finished in 15th with a 14:42 pace over the course. Brittani Pfau finished in 16:12, 42nd place, out of 106 runners.

All of the runners competed well for their first meet of the season. The teams began training in early August, and have long awaited a meet to break up their training schedule. The teams will travel to the University at Tyler to compete in the Tyler Lee Country Classic on Saturday, September 5th .
