Mathews leads girls to District 19-2A Team Title

Brianne Mathews topped off an already great season with an individual District Champion title last Monday at Daingerfield State Park. Mathews completed the tough course, that might have been a little longer than usually, in 14:56 for the individual title. The Ladynecks saw four runners with top ten finishes. Morgan Hill finished 7th, 15:36, Paige Maly, 8th, 15:55, and Lauren Berry, 10th in 16:03. Nour Hussein rounded out the team scoring in 16:13 for a 13th place finish. Elizabeth Horne placed 14th in 16:21 and Alyssa Mathews placed 39th in 18:43. The first place finish also qualifies the team for regional competition in Humble at Atascocita High School on November 5th.

Jonathan “scarface” Spedowski led the boys team to a second place team finish by placing fourth in a time of 16:25. Austin Jordan and Clay Hunter also collected some hardware placing 9th and 10th in 17:19 and 17:21respectively. Mason Malone, 18:40, and Chase Robinson, 18:42, completed the team scoring for the boys placing 17th and 18th. Carter Tackett finished right behind Robinson in 19th place for a time of 18:43. Greyson Jones, 23rd, rounded out the boys runners for White Oak in a time of 19:06. Blake Warren collected some heavy duty hardware after he snagged the Junior Varsity boys Champion title in 18:48. Drew Frazier also brought home a medal by placing 6th in 21:17. Bryson White just missed bringing home a medal completing the course in 23:23 for 14th place. The top three teams qualify for regional competition in Humble on Saturday, November 5th. The girls are slated to start at 12:30 followed by the boys at 12:50. The course is grassy and flat with typically faster times compared to other courses.

Atlanta Meet

This week we will be traveling to Atlanta High School. An information sheet and map will be sent home Wednesday, however you can get directions to the school ahead of time if you would like. The school address is 705 Rabbit Blvd.

We will meet at 6:00AM and we will leave at 6:15. Yikes!!! it’s going to be an early morning.

Hallsville Running of the Cows!

This week we will travel to Jimmie Hunt’s Farm in Hallsville. We will split the teams up this week. The High School will compete on Friday and the Junior High will compete on Saturday. This meet is chip timed so it should run fairly quickly and smoothly.

Directions to the Jimmie Hunt’s Farm:
From Longview on HWY 80 East: Turn right at the second red light onto HWY 450 South. Travel approximately one mile to Galilee Road and turn left. Stay on the road for 11/4 miles past the Hallsville Intermediate School. Jimmie Hunt’s Farm is on the right at the opening. Parking will be on the left side across from the opening. Follow the signs

From Interstate 20: Take Hallsville exit (exit 604), head north on HWY 450. Go 11/4 miles and turn right on Galilee Road. Stay on the road for 11/4 miles past the Hallsville Intermediate School. Cross Country Teams Capture Titles at Hawkins Invitational

The Ladynecks and Roughnecks captured the team titles at the Hawkins Invitational Meet held at Hawkins High School. The meet was a good mid-season tune-up for regional competition seeing a flatter, grassy course compared to previous courses. The girls varsity team was led for the second week by Brianne Mathews. Mathews finished in 12:49 for a fourth place finish. Mathews was followed by Morgan Hill in 13:01,7th, Elizabeth Horne, 9th, in 13:09 and Nour Hussein in 10th with a time of 13:10. Lauren Berry returned to action with a good finishing time and in the team’s fifth spot in 14:26 for 31st place. Alyssa Mathews also return to action this week in 69th place in a time of 16:36. The team won with a score of 42 points. The boys captured their first team title with a score of 66 points, led by Clay Hunter’s fourth place finish in 18:08. Hunter was followed by Austin Jordan in ninth place,18:29, and Jonathan Spedowski in 12th with a time of 18:48. The remaining runners did well racing together this week for a good portion of the race. Greyson Jones, 30th, and Mason Malone, 31st, finished neck-and-neck in 20:07 and 20:08 to score for the team. Carter Tackett and Chase Robinson also raced better to improve the team performance. Tackett finished in 5k course 20:56, 48th, and Robinson 21:21, 54th out of 54 runners.

The Junior Varsity race saw three runners compete. Blake Warren just missed out on a medal with his 14th place finish in 20:32. Drew Frazier finished in 24th place with a time of 22:08 and Bryson White finished in 25:38 for 49th place.

The Junior High teams also saw some racing action and their times improve from last weekend. Clay McNesse led the boys team finishing in ninth place in 11:56. Logan Rowe raced to 50th place in 13:36. He was followed by Connor Weeks in 57th for a time of 14:01. Jeremy Patak and Cade Palmer used some team running to help each other this week. Patak finished in 70th place in 14:32, Palmer finished in 78th place, 14:46. Braden Fears also saw his time improve from last week and raced better this week. Fears finished in 16:01 in 105th place.
The girls team also improved their times from the Pine Tree meet. Monika Owens had a great race and led the girls again this week with a tenth place finish in 13:50. Owens was followed Jaci Wallace, 40th, 15:40, Savanna Ogden, 49th, 16:23, and Bella Sacco, 52nd, 16:30. In her first race Jessica Patak ran a time of 17:44 for 70th, Maddie Williams raced to 78th place in 18:30, and Shyanne Troxell 79th in 18:45. All the junior high runners raced better and more competitively this past weekend. They are learning how to race as a team and maintain their pace better throughout the course of the race. This experience will be valuable for the District competition at the end of this month.

We will travel to Hallsville for the infamous “Running of the Cows” at Jimmie Hunt’s farm in Hallsville. The High School teams will compete Friday, October 7th, starting at 8:45 with the girls race. The Junior High teams will compete Saturday, October 8th, starting at 9:00 with the girls race. The course is grassy with some rolling hills and a challenging incline at during the last 800 meters of the race. We hope to see you there.

Hawkins Meet Info

This week we will compete at Hawkins High School. The order of races will be as followed with an approximate schedule. This race is not chip timed like last weekend, so it should run slower and fairly close to schedule. This course is more spectator friendly with more opportunities to see your runners compete. It is a grassy flat course with some rolling hills. We usually is a dramatic drop in times for the junior high runners and the high school runners will use this as a tune-up for the regional course in Humble.

Directions: Travel west on HWY 80 to FM 14 in Hawkins, take a left on FM 14 and the school is to the right on Hawk Drive.

Pine Tree Meet

The Roughneck and Ladyneck Cross Country teams returned to action at the sixth annual Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot last weekend. The girls varsity team finished second led by Brianne Mathews thirteenth place finish in 13:15. Jonathan Spedowski led the boys varsity also in the thirteenth place with a time of 17:30.

The girls race saw four runners finish in the top 25 and collect some hardware to bring home. Morgan Hill finished 20th in 13:31, followed by Nour Hussein in 22nd 13:35. Pagie Maly finished closely behind Hussein in 25th, 13:37. Elizabeth Horne completed the team scoring in 34th with a time of 13:54. The girls team ran very well for a tough hilly course. The boys team placed 8th as a team. Spedowski was followed by Austin Jordan, 28th, 18:13 and Clay Hunter, 37th, 18:35. Greyson Jones, 19:53, and Mason Malone, 20:00, finished 60th and 66th to round out the team scoring. The boys competed well on a tough course that also saw several hills.

The junior varsity team was led by Carter Tackett’s 21st place finish in 20:07. Blake Warren, 21:29, finished 36th followed by Chase Robinson in 44th with a time of 21:29. Drew Frazier, 21:32, and Bryson White, 23:56, finished scoring for the team’s 6th place finish. All the junior varsity runners improved their 5k time from the previous meet and on a much tougher course.

The Junior High Cross Country teams competed in their first meet of the season at the Puddle Jump and Pig Trot. The boys finished second overall and the girls finished eighth. Clay McNeese and Monika Owens led both groups with 5th and 10th place finishes in their divisions. In the boys race, McNeese was followed by Michael Maly in 6th, Logan Rowe in 24th, Garrett Stephenson, 30th, and Connor Weeks in 33rd to complete the team scoring. Jeremy Patak finished in 61st, Cade Palmer, 65th and right behind him Landry Sheridan in 66th. Braden Fears and Kyler Dennison finished in 85th and 86th place to complete the runners for the boys team. In the girls division Owens was followed by Savanna Ogden in 47th, Bella Sacco in 53rd, Macy Lewis in 64th, and Maddie Williams in 66th to score for the team. Jaci Wallace edged out teammate Chloe Marsh, 69th, for 68th. Shyanne Troxell placed 74th, Kathleen Crane 83rd, and Emily Bargsley finished 85th. The junior high runners competed well for the first meet of the season and for a particular tough course.
The teams will travel to Hawkins for their annual race held at the High School. The first race will start at 8:35 with the Varsity girls. We hope you will come watch us compete.

Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot Race

This week we will travel to Katy’s Ranch for a tough 2 mile and 5k course. The junior high runners will be with us for their first meet of the season. An information sheet will come home with your runner on Wednesday, so be looking for it.
Meet Info:
Saturday: Meet at shed (structure by bus barn) at 6:15AM, leave at 6:30.
Races begin at 8:00 with the Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, JV boys, JV girls, JH boys, and JH girls
This race is a rolling start, the next race will begin as soon as the previous race finishes. Pine Tree will also be using a chip timing method, so expect the meet to move fairly quickly. I would allow 20 minutes per race, so get there in plenty of time to see your runner compete.

Junior High runners should bring their own water or sports drink and something to snack on. I will have a cooler for them to keep their drinks in. Please have their drink marked with their name. They should come dressed in their uniform with their sweats on or they should wear a White Oak t-shirt and maroon or black shorts over their uniform.

UT Tyler Meet Results

The White Oak Cross Country teams returned to action last Saturday, September 10th to compete at the Tyler Lee Invitational at the campus of UT Tyler. The top finisher for this week were Paige Maly for the varsity girls and Clay Hunter for the boys. Maly paced the girls with a 12th place finish in 13:15. She was closely followed by Brianne Mathews in 13th (13:22) and Morgan Hill in 14th (13:23). Nour Hussein followed in 14:05 (25th) and Lauren Berry 27th in a time of 14:16 rounded out the team scoring for the Ladynecks. Alyssa Mathews finished in 73rd out of 121 runners. The Ladynecks placed 4th out of 13 teams in the 1A-3A division. The ladies raced well for the challenging course.

In the boys race, the team competed in the Open JV boys division. This division consisted of class A to 5A teams. The boys placed 6th as a team out of 21 teams. Clay Hunter lead the Roughnecks with a finishing time of 18:40 over 3.2 miles to place 7th. Hunter was followed by Austin Jordan, 18:40.29, in 11th and Jonathan Spedowski, 18:40.94, in 12th. Mason Malone finished in 45th place in a time of 20:21. He was followed by Chase Robinson in 62nd, 20:58, to score for the Roughnecks. Greyson Jones, 21:14, 69th, and Carter Tackett 84th, 21:51 placed in the top one hundred. Blake Warren finished in 22:39, 125th, Drew Frazier followed in 23:37th and Bryson White in 24:20. There were 231 runners in the boys race. The boys also raced well for the grassy, hilly 5k course. The teams will not compete this weekend but return to action at the Pine Tree Puddle Jump and Pig Trot at Katy’s Ranch September 24th. We hope to see you there.
