XC UPDATES Week 8/16-8/20

Cross Country practice for the JH runners will start this Wednesday at 6:20AM. We will meet the OMS gum on the steps leading into the gym on the stadium side. We will finish up around 7:00am

All HS runners will be introduced at the Community Pep Rally this Friday starting at 8:00PM. Where shorts and XC shirt

The first meet for the HS runners will be this Saturday at Union Grove. Races will begin at 8:10 with a rolling start. Varsity girls should race around 8:50, Varsity Boys 9:15 and JV boys at 10:15.

We will meet at 7:15 at the shed and leave at 7:30 for the meet.

Runners can ride home with the parents if they prefer.

Region II Results 2020

The Region II Cross Country Championships were held at Jesse Owens Sports Memorial Complex in Dallas on Monday, November 9th. In the girls race Morgan Benge placed 29th in a time of 13:39. Benge was followed by Abby Quesenberry in 90th in a time of 15:15. There were 136 total runners in the girls race. Nathan Green was the top finisher for the Roughnecks in the boys race which featured 123 runners. Green placed 16th in a time of 17:20. He was followed by Alberto Soto, 17:50, in 24th, John Langley, 18:50, in 50th, Adrian Pinson, 76th, in 19:38, and Jake Yarbrough in 85th, 20:10. Logan Dugger finished in 110th for a time of 21:36. The boys placed sixth as a team out of 14 teams. Nathan Green qualified for the state meet as an individual. The state meet will be held Monday, November 23rd at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, Texas. The 3A boys race at 12:30pm.

District 15-3A Results

The District 15-3A meet was held at the campus of Northeast Texas Community College on Saturday, October 31st. The top two teams and top ten individuals advance to the Regional meet on November 9th at Jesse Owens Sports Complex in Dallas. The girls will race at 9:00 and the boys race will begin at 9:30. White Oak had several runners advance as a team or as individual medalists. The girls kicked off the morning with two top ten finishes. Morgan Benge finished in 4th, 14:29, and Abby Quesenberry 8th place, 15:18 . Both ladies ran good races, and will qualify for the Regional meet in Dallas. In the boys race, the team finished as District Runner Up in a very close race, allowing all six boys to advance to the Regional meet. Four Roughnecks finished in the top ten; Nathan Green 3rd, 18:25, Alberto Soto, 4th in 18:46, John Langley, 7th, 19:28. Langley was followed closely by Adrian Pinson in 9th place, 19:43, to complete finishers in the top ten. Jake Yarbrough rounded out the team scoring for the Roughnecks finishing in 12th place in 19:54. Logan Dugger finished in 28th place in a time of 21:19. In the late afternoon the junior high runners took to the course led by eighth grader Lizzy Still’s individual title in 14:28, followed by Kalyn Hepler in 5th, 15:56, Sophie Carter in 7th, 16:22 and Taylor Morgan 16:23 for 8th. All four girls earned a medal for their top ten finish. In the boys’ race Campbell Sutton finished in 14:53 for 14th, followed by Levi Sipes in 19th, 15:01, Nathan Watson, 26th, 16:38, and Hayden Hunter in 31st for a time of 19:08.

Nathan Green races to a 15th place finish in 17:47

It was a pretty morning in East Texas today. With the temperatures finally dipping into the fifties, the weather was perfect for late season racing. The Roughnecks were led by Nathan Green’s 15th place finish and PR of 17:47. Green was followed by Alberto Soto,18:11, 19th, and John Langley, 18:23, 25th. Adrian Pinson (18:54) and Jake Yarbrough (19:27) finished in 34th and 42nd respectively. Logan Dugger improved on his time as well finishing the 5k course in 20:34. The boys team placed 5th overall scoring 132 points. In the girls race Morgan Benge placed 12th in 13:06. Abby Quesenberry returned to racing this week with finishing in 44th place in 16:14. The Roughnecks and Ladynecks will return to action at the District 15-3A meet on October 28th. The meet will be held at Northeast Texas Community College.

Union Grove Meet Results: Boys Team Places First

The White Oak Cross Country teams were back in action this weekend racing at the Union Grove Cross Country meet. The teams started the morning with great races from the junior high boys’ team. Logan Langewisch led the team with a nineteenth finish in 14:38. Levi Sipes, 14:45, and Campell Sutton,14:58, finished in 21st and 22nd places. Nathan Watson, finished in 29th place in a time of 16:09. Rounding out the team scoring, was Hayden Hunter, 19:25, in 34th place. The boys scored 125 points in a race that saw 36 total runners compete. The junior high girls were led by Lizzy Still’s fourth place finish in a time of 13:26. Still was followed by Kalyn Helper, 13th, in 14:51, Taylor Morgan, 14th, in 14:53, and Sophie Carter finished in 15th place in 14:55. Tessa Pruitt rounded out the team scoring for the girls in 27th place in a time of 16:29. The girl’s race saw 40 runners compete. In the Varsity girls’ race Morgan Benge medaled in sixth place in a time of 13:41. The Varsity boys team was led by Nathan Green’s second place finish in 18:00 minutes. Also finishing in the top ten was Alberto Soto in third, 18:28, Adrian Pinson sixth in 18:47, and John Langley, seventh, 18:51. Jake Yarbrough rounded out the team scoring with an 11th place finish in a time of 19:29. Logan Dugger improved his time on this course finishing in 21:57 for 21st place. The boys scored 29 team points and placed first as a team for the meet.

Union Grove Meet 10/10

The next meet for the XC teams will be at Union Grove HS on Saturday, October 10th. The Junior High races will begin at 8:00AM with the boys’ race followed by the girls at 8:15. The High School runners will start at 9:00 with the varsity girls followed by the varsity boys at 9:20.

We will meet at 6:45AM at the shed and leave at 7:00AM. JH runners will come home Monday with an information sheet.

Parents and spectators can attend the meet to watch.

Gilmer Meet Results

Mother Nature was good to the Roughnecks on Saturday, as the early morning temps dipped into the 60s. The weather combined with a fast trail provided the perfect opportunity for all six Roughnecks to place in the top twenty, bringing home much earned hardware. Nathan Green led the Roughnecks in second place in a time of 17:47. Green was followed by Alberto Soto, 18:07, in third, John Langley, 18:21, fourth, and Adrian Pinson, 18:28, in fifth place. Jake Yarbrough finished in eighth place in 18:09, and Logan Dugger rounded out the top twenty finished in nineteenth in 20:24.The junior high runners also raced on Saturday. Taylor Morgan led all Ladynecks in third place in a time of 15:00 minutes flat. She was followed by Kalyn Helpler in 12th place in a time of 16:30. Sophie Carter placed 17th in a time of 16:40. Nathan Watson just missed bringing home a medal in the boys race finishing in 24th place with a time of 16:33.
